This unit has several features which were particularly appealing to me.
1) Status icon displays progress.
2) Over-charge/over-heat protection.
3) Auto shut-off.
4) Refresh function to fully discharge before recharging
5) Ability to charge four batteries at once. Any combination of AA or AAA.
6) Individual charging circuits allow charging odd number of batteries (some chargers require to charge in pairs.)
I would not say this is at all a "quick" or "rapid" charger. It took over 3 hours to charge two AA that came with the device. Perhaps charging at such a rate allows for a more complete charge. For my uses, I do not need instant access to batteries. Once the low charge warning is indicated on my devices, I start charging the replacements.
The batteries that come with it are high capacity. This is usually inversely related to how fast they self discharge. Basically, one wouldn't charge these up too far ahead of time. High capacity batteries can lose 30% of their charge in a month.
