Even though I read several reviews, I was still pleasantly surprised with this gem-of-a-light which beat my expectations. It arrived well packaged on time and after charging it for a few hours, I tried it out in a few different scenarios.
It seems to work best where there is some ambient light even if quite dim.

I tried shooting children in near pitch dark at a nearby park and although it lit up the kids well enough to record some decent video, light drop-off was significant beyond about 12 feet. I recommend shooting with foliage or a wall/fence/whatever at about 15 feet to catch the light and avoid having nothing but black beyond your subjects.
This light is very impressive when shooting video indoors, it really made a big difference, and the colors look much better. I did not experience any hues, blue or otherwise using this light.

The build is OK, and it is very easy to use and fits easily on the hot-shoe on my camera. The biggest downside to this light is that once the battery dies, you either need to stop filming (or stop the function you are filming) but on the plus side, I got about 1 hour and ten minutes of use out of it and it still had some battery life left. Over the approx two hours I used it, I was careful to switch off the light between filming.

It works well as additional light when using flash and can be used in place of flash but comparing photos, I found photos were better with either a flash or using the light to assist the flash( great for eliminating red-eye!)
All in all, it is a very useful light which takes up little space in your camera bag but works very well.
I deducted one star due to the none removable battery otherwise it is a super little light and I wholly recommend it.

Flat-out, the Sigma EX DG ultraviolet filter is hands-down the best UV filter I have ever used. I've had a handful from Hoya, Tiffen, and Zeikos...and always truly believed that it was just to protect the lens, and the clarity of picture was changed in such minute ways, that it was more or less unnoticeable. However, just holding this lens up next to any of my other UV lenses side-by-side, and you can genuinely see the difference. While $20+ does seem just a little on the steep side for just a UV filter when there are so many out there for less than $5, it's good knowing that unless something tragic happens to this one, I'll never need another. I fully intend to buy one in each diameter I need to cover all my lenses.

findings that off brands of similar technology batteries work just as well and as long.
I have been using Duracell CR123's in my remote weather station receivers and they last
about a year. I have purchased the Ultralast on two occasions because sometimes you
can obtain some old stock. This last time the expiration was in 2012, and I didn't get
6 months out of them again. So I suppose the Consumers Reports may be valid for AA,
AAA's, but this is not my finding for these special CR123's. So I am disappointed

The biggest bummer is that often these are not prime eligible because they are
fulfilled by marketplace sellers, so I often have to pay shipping that is as much
as the batteries themselves. If they last the proper time, there is no sense
in buying in quantity as they will just sit there losing power over time.
So I need to buy fresh each time. This effectively doubles the cost of the
batteries. So I expect to get a year out of the Ultralast if I always get
a year out of the Duracell. Not the case... twice..

I bought this lens a week ago and have found it to be a good choice, though not up to Takina's 12-24 F/4 which I would say is the best lens in this class. The Canon is lighter which makes it comfortable to shoot with a heaver camera like the 50D espically with a battery grip on, which I don't own yet but plan on buying soon. The extra two degrees at the wide end is a big advantage also with this lens, though you lose it at the zoomed range this is not such an issue as I think most people who will buy this lens will have that covered buy another lens if the really need it.

This lens is soft in the corners especially wide open, this is common in a lens of this class and the Takina also does this but not to the degree of this Canon it also handles CA better and the Takina I would say has a much stronger build. Takina is well known for making tank lenses. I would take this lens over the Sigma and Tamron versions (Tamron usually I find to be the best for 3rd party lenses), but in my opinion, the Takina just out performs these lenses and does so with a constant F/4 aperture which is very important to me. Flare control does seem a bit better also with this lens though not by much, it can make a big difference in some shooting scenes.

This is a great lens overall, so don't think I am unhappy with it. If the lens was cheaper I would probably recommend it but it's the same price a Takina's, Sigmas and Tamrons without the benefits so I will be returning it.

This is my first prime lens and although several reviews said it's too long on the DX cameras I haven't had many situations where I can't back to the right distance. I've used this lens inside, outside, at gymnasiums and at night on Halloween. I've taken a couple of hundred snaps with this lens since getting it. I like it a lot. It focuses quickly and accurately on my D90 even when I turn off the AF illumination. The colors are natural. I only had one lens for my D90 before getting the 50/1.4. That lens was the 16-85 Nikkor. I like the sharpness of my 16-85 and its versatility, but I leave home a lot without it after getting this lens.
